Basic format to reference a dataset using a web address

Data citations should be granted the same significance in the scholarly report as citations from other research publications. Include the following information where available.

[#]    Author(s) Initial(s). Surname(s), Date, “Title of Dataset,” Source. [Online]. Available: http://www.url.com

Referencing elements to cite:

  • [#] Reference number matching the in-text citation number
  • Author’s first initial. Author’s second initial, if provided. Author’s last name
  • Date of publication
  • Title of the Dataset, in double quotation marks. Capitalize the first letter of each important word in the title.
  • Source: Publisher/Production information, Place of Publication (if applicable)
  • [Online]
  • Available: site/path/file
