Bachelor of Criminology: Case Studies

What are Case Studies

Case studies typically require students to analyse a set of facts, identify issues, and apply their theoretical knowledge and experience to a real life situation, coming up with possible solutions.

Analysing Case Studies

Follow this method when analysing a case study:

  • Read the case study through to get an overall understanding.
  • Read the case study a second time actively identifying the facts, people, and organisations involved.
  • Identify the issues raised in the case study.
  • Link the issues to the concepts and theories studied.  It is important to to apply theory to the real world example in the case study.
  • Look back at the course content and your notes to identify any theories that might apply.
  • Conduct additional research using library databases to expand upon your answer.  The other pages on this guide provide more guidance on research. Or if you need assistance click the help option to contact the library.
