APA 7th Referencing: Conference Materials

Basic format to reference conference proceedings

The basics of a reference list entry for a paper in a published conference proceedings:

  • Author or authors of paper. Surname followed by first initials.
  • Year.
  • Title of paper.
  • Editors of conference proceedings.
  • Title of conference proceedings (in italics).
  • Pages of paper (in round brackets).
  • Publisher.
  • DOI or URL
  • The first line of each citation is left adjusted. Every subsequent line is indented 5-7 spaces.

Example:

Rudawska, A. (2020). Knowledge sharing and creativity: Individual and organizational perspective. In A. Zakrzewska-Bielawska & I. Staniec (Eds.), Contemporary challenges in cooperation and coopetition in the age of industry 4.0: 10th Conference on Management of Organizations' Development (MOD) (pp.107-121). Springer. https://doi.org/10.1007/978-3-030-30549-9_5

 

Please note:

  • Proceedings of conferences, meetings and symposia can be published in book or periodical form.
  • To cite published proceedings from a book, use the same format as for a book or book chapter (as in above e.g.).
  • To cite proceedings that are published regularly, use the same format as for a journal article.

Capitalise the names of conferences, symposia and meetings that appear in titles.

Conference Session

Provide the year, month and dates of the conference (not the specific day the session was presented).

Conferences have specific locations, so this is included in the format of City, State/Province/Territory (as applicable), and Country, e.g. Melbourne, VIC, Australia.

Cite all authors of a presentation, even if they were not all present at the conference/meeting.

Note that the use of a URL shortener, such as Bitly, is permissible where the original URL is long and complex. Make sure that your short URL works before submission.
