Images for teaching at VU: Attribution (Save & Track)

This page contains information about Attribution and who you need to include with the image you are using in your teaching. Images can enhance the learning experience for students in VU Collaborate and presentations, but the creator of that image has the right to have their details associated with the use of that image.

The Open Attribution Tool works nicely to create quick and easy image citations. Copy and paste the text attribution or the html into your material such as a PPT, H5P, etc.

Keeping records for image attribution

Keeping clear records of the images that you use will allow you to easily attribute in your VU Collaborate content, presentations and H5P learning objects.

  • Use consistent file management to save all downloaded images for each presentation (or session, activity, etc.) in a clearly named file.
  • Use an Excel spreadsheet (or similar), to keep an inventory of the images used for each presentation or learning object.

The critical information to record includes:

  • Title (or description, if the image has no formal title)
  • Creator (Author)
  • Date (if available)
  • Licence information
  • Source/Image URL
  • Alternative Text for the image (for accessibility)
  • File name (on your computer)
  • (Optional) Details of precise location of image in presentation (for e.g. 'Slide 7')
