FYRE (First Year Research Essentials): How to find things in VU library

How to search VU Library  
  • Access the library at https://www.vu.edu.au/library.
  • You do not need to sign up. Just use your VU login and password to access library materials.
  • All the materials in the library are suitable for coursework. They have been selected for reliability and credibility.

Tip:

  • For best results do not paste your whole question into the search bar.
  • Instead break your topic down to just its key ideas
  • eg “discuss the effects of climate change on the health of people in Australia” might become... 

    climate change health Australia 

  • Once you have searched uses the 'Source' option on the results page to find the type of material you want

  • or the 'time' option to get more recent material

  • there is also a 'peer reviewed' option if you are asked to use peer reviewed materials.

After each item in the results there will be options on how to access it.

  • for ebooks or articles it will be a link (you will need to be logged in).
  • for print materials it will tell you where to find it in the library

Remember you can always ask at the library or use Library Chat to get help.

  2. Identify two different types of material related to your course (eg ebook, print book, video, journal article)
