This guide will act as a step by step guide for researchers to create their Research Academic Profile online.
See below for an overview of the different parts of the profile. These instructions will cover all of these parts.
To update/edit your research profile in the Discovery module, you need to first log in to VU Elements and click on the profile editing section. See the 'Getting Started' tab for more information.
For staff who don’t have an active profile on Find a researcher, you will need to ensure you have an Elements account.
If you don’t have an Elements account you can put a request at the VU Support Hub and request an Elements account.
Please note that the official Discovery page is being set up but you should be able to go directly to researchers.vu.edu.au
To open this page you will need to be on campus or if you're offsite you will need to run the VPN.
The Researcher Academic Profiles’ project will provide us with a dynamic new system to better showcase our researchers and their research expertise to the broader community.
What are we implementing?
We are updating our current public Researcher Profile system and replacing it with a well-known platform used by many national and international research institutions called “Discovery”. Examples of other universities who already use this platform are found here.
Why the change?
The Discovery platform will better showcase the full spectrum of our research expertise and capabilities, both individually and holistically, providing a comprehensive window into our research world. The system will be stable, reliable, and well-supported, ensuring a seamless experience for all users.
It has many options that previously weren't available such as being able to apply UNSDG codes (and FoR 2020 codes), to your profiles and research items. This should ultimately help with the Victoria University THE Impact ranking so that the important research VU does is better recognised and acknowledged.
The profiles will go live to the public on June 30, and it will take 3-4 weeks for the search engines to reference/index the profiles.
