Research Academic Profiles: Bio

This guide provides an overview of the Research Academic Profile and instructions on how to edit/create profiles.

Bio

Your Bio is one of the critical tasks you need to complete before your profile is made public. This is one of the first things people will look at when they view your profile. Like the summary fields below it allows free text with HTML being optional to do formatting such as bullet points or to add hypertext links.

Please update and edit your Bio if it has been it has been migrated across from the previous profile system. If you haven't had a profile before you will need to create a bio. See below for of an example of the type of information to include in your Bio.

Summary Fields

There are four summary fields: Research Outputs; Funded Research; Service & Outreach; and Supervision. You only need to put content in the summary fields relevant to you. These fields allow free text with HTML being optional.

The summary fields provide you with the opportunity to create some explanatory text that contextualises your work and provides some of the highlights.

For instance, in the Supervision summary, you may want to include information on the range of topics you can provide supervision with or a summary of your track record - see below.

Please note that the Summary fields have the public/internal/private option. We recommend that you set all your privacy options before the 'Go Live' date.

Content Controlled Fields

Content controlled fields have a prescribed structure as you can see in the example below. Please note asterisk (*) fields are compulsory.

Locked fields

There are some fields that you will see in VU Elements that will be locked. Some of the naming conventions have been changed.

Some users may have populated the Overview previously but the Bio field is replacing this. The Overview field won't be used moving forwards.

The Teaching summary has also been locked. If you want to include information regarding your teaching activities this can be included in the Bio field.

Labels

The Labels field allows you to apply various labels to your profile. These are: Availability; Field of Research Codes (FoRs) and United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs). To add content click on 'Manage Labels' on relevant sections.

Availability

This schema allows you to describe what kinds of opportunities you are interested in being contacted about such as Masters or PhD student supervision, industry projects, mentoring or media enquiries. Once captured this information can (subject to configuration) be reused in a number of ways including on your public profile.

FoRs and UNSDGs

Please apply relevant FoR labels to your profile.

There is a restricted vocabulary for this ontology; search the controlled vocabulary to add the required label. Note that you can define % for the labels. For more information on the different codes please check the links below to discover the ones relevant to you.

Fields of Research (2020) allows research activity to be categorised according to common knowledge domains and/or methodologies.

https://www.abs.gov.au/statistics/classifications/australian-and-new-zealand-standard-research-classification-anzsrc/latest-release

You only need to include FoR 2020 and FoR Division. (include just 6 digit)

FoR divisions are broader research areas and have two digits - this is added automatically. See example below.

The ERA 6 Digit Field of Research Code doesn’t need to be included.

Please add any UNSDGs that are relevant to your research output.
